I cruised downtown and walked into a major account and I said, "Hello, how are you?" "How are you?" he replied. And again I asked, "How are you?" He played along and asked, " How are you?" I repeated the greeting again and he said that's enough. I realized what I had done. But, my short term memory continued during the sales call. I didn't get the order and he would never return my phone calls. That account cost me thousand of dollars in commissions.
